I was studying in Italy and was forced to leave abruptly due to Coronavirus, and the US is having me self quarantine and check my temperature twice a day, and my temperature can go as high as 99.5 (the fever is supposedly 100.4) and I just feel incredibly hot but I also know that I haven’t slept in four days and being on long flights messes me up, along with the stress of essentially being evicted from my home in Italy and having to leave. Am I being paranoid or should I be worried about corona?

Yikes fam! You wouldn’t happen to attend to Marist college, would you?

I am not a health care professional, but I’m very germophobic and paranoid and here is my advice:

  • Do absolutely everything you were advised to do by authorities.
  • If your symptoms do get worse, take the proper precuations you were advised to. Keep monitoring your temperature, and if you get above the threshold, contact your doctor via phone for more instructions. The big thing is dificultly breathing, if you experience dificulty breathing, call your doctor ASAP.
  • If you do get corona, remember, it’s not as deadly as the flu is. We deal with the flu every single year. If you are not immuno compromised, you will probably be fine as long as you take care of yourself! Most people only experience mild flu-like symptoms and recover. What’s important is not transmitting the virus to people whose immune systems are not as strong. That’s where we’re seeing deaths, especially all the deaths in the nursing home in Washington. So sad. That’s the big concern right now. So for the sake of others, stay quarantined.
  • Get some rest! Sleep is the best cure for any sort of sickness. Take some sleep meds if you need to.
  • Support your immune system with vitamin c. Emergen-C packets are great, Halls supplement drops work as well, and honestly drinking plain old orange juice can be helpful.
  • All other normal flu things apply: drink lots of liquids, avoid lactose to reduce phlegm, if you have a cough use losenges or tea to reduce coughing, and avoid caffeinated and fizzy beverages.
  • I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE Advil cold and sinus. It really helps reduce phlegm and can make you feel a lot less shitty. It’s sold behind the counter, but you don’t need a perscription, and it’s non drowsy.
  • Try to destress as much as possible. I do honestly believe that stress can do cause physical ailments in the body to be so much worse than they actually are. Being stressed will make your sickness all that much worse. Watch Netflix and distract yourself! Let your body heal.

Give yourself tonight and tomorrow to heal and rest. If you still feel terrible tomorrow afternoon, contact your doctor. Right now there is no magic cure for corona, so most people are just being advised to stay home and rest unless they’re in critical condition. Right now, every critical case I’ve read about is either a senior or someone who is immuno compromised.

Keep us posted please!!! Give us updates on your condition.
